Bylaws

As stated in the Constitution of Unleashed, this
organization’s goal remains to promote and share a cappella music among
the University of Washington community. In order to maximize the
organization’s ability to achieve this goal, Unleashed adopts the
following Bylaws.

Rehearsal Attendance

  1. Performing members of Unleashed are required to attend scheduled
    weekly rehearsals. Extra rehearsals, such as before performances,
    are not required but are highly encouraged.
  2. The music director (or co-directors) has the sole discretion to
    permit or prohibit members who fail to attend weekly rehearsals
    from performing.

Auditions for the Whole Group

  1. All members of Unleashed must audition for the whole group.
  2. Auditions to sing with the whole group will not be used to refuse
    anyone from singing with the whole group.
  3. The music director (or co-directors) has the responsibility of
    scheduling and hearing auditions with new members.

Creation of an Auditioned-Only Group

  1. The officers may create an auditioned-only group (hereinafter
    auditioned group.) in addition to the whole group by a majority
    vote of the officers.
  2. The continuation of the auditioned group from year to year will
    require a majority vote of the officers during each new school year.
  3. The officers will determine the frequency of auditions for the
    auditioned group by a majority vote of the officers.
  4. The music director (or co-directors) has the responsibility of
    scheduling and hearing auditions for the auditioned group.
  5. The music director (or co-directors) has the sole discretion of
    determining the size of the auditioned group and for selecting
    members of the auditioned group based on auditions.
  6. The music director (or co-directors) has the discretion of
    removing an auditioned member from the auditioned group for just
    cause (e.g. multiple missed rehearsals) upon consultation with the
    other officers.

Relationship of Whole Group and Auditioned Group

  1. Members of the auditioned group must sing in the whole group and
    abide by the rehearsal attendance policy for the whole group.
  2. Members of the whole group shall be treated equally with the
    auditioned group.
  3. The emphasis of the group shall remain in the entire ensemble.

Creation of Small Groups

  1. Anyone may create a small group to perform songs that are of
    interest to him or her.
  2. Small groups shall rehearse on their own time.
  3. Small groups may perform at performances provided that they have
    the permission of the music director (or co-directors).

Selection of Music

The officers will determine songs for the
whole group and auditioned group upon consultation with the group
members.

Changing By-Laws

The by-laws may be changed by a majority vote (i.e. greater than
fifty percent), provided that 2/3 of the active membership is
present.

Adoption of By-Laws

These By-Laws shall be effective by a majority vote of the active
membership, provided that 2/3 of the active membership is in
attendance.
