Tribeta Meeting: The
Relationship between Christianity and Science in Historical
Perspective: Galileo, Darwin, and the Scopes Monkey Trial
Location:
Hitchcock 320
Time: 4:30pm-5:30pm
Speaker: Dr. James Felak
Dr.
James Felak will give a brief overview of science in the Middle Ages,
followed by a discussion of three cases of conflict between
Christianity and science in their historical contexts. Also, an
attempt will be made to show that the relationship between Christianity
and science is far more complex than is often assumed, and to challenge
modern myths about this relationship.
Not only is this a very interesting topic, but its also our last
meeting of Winter quarter, so don't miss it!
Also, don't forget about
our Kaplan
course Auction that ends THIS WEEK!
*Short Relay For Life Meeting will follow the Tribeta meeting
March 2, 2007 (Friday) *Free food, beer
(for 21+) and networking!
Life Science Speed Networking Night
Location:
Anderson 207 (Forestry Club room)
Time: 5:00-9:00pm
It is so important for scientists from
different disciplines to get to know each other (Where would Watson be
without
Crick?). We hope to help with this fun and exciting social event.
Here
is how it works: We will all sit at a
very long table across from someone we have never met. When the bell
rings you
will all have 2-4 minutes to introduce yourselves, share our majors,
interests
and career goals and listen to theirs. When
2-4 minutes have passed a bell will ring
again and everyone must
move down the table one chair to meet someone new! This will continue
until
everyone there meets each other. Social mixer begins at 5pm. Speed
networking
begins at 5:30pm
We
will then have a social mixer so you
can reconnect with people you found interesting. There will be food and
music,
as well as free beer for UW students, faculty or staff (21+ with ID).
Don't miss this event!
