Mixed Doubles BBQ 2009

Husky Tennis Club would like to thank everyone who participated and made the Mixed Doubles BBQ a successful event! We got really lucky with the weather and had a fabulous day of tennis, food, and sun. Here are the results of the tournament:

WSU Tournament

WSU would like us to come over there on either the weekend of April 10th or 17th to play in a tournament with some other schools. This trip will be all out of pocket but we know several people have friends that they can stay with; so, costs should not be too bad. This should be a very fun trip towards the end of the year before we head to Oregon. The deadline for this is the Saturday, 28 February 2009 so they can book court time.

Western and WSU Matches @ UW

Western and WSU will be coming to the UW on the Saturday, 28 February 2009 to play a match against us. We will be playing from 6 - 9:45 at the NTC. We will get to play both teams once. We should have time to play a pro set with ads. If the weather is good we will also play outside on Sunday, 1 March 2009 at the denny feild courts. We have those courts from 10-4 but it will probably not last that long and we have to have good weather. If you would like to sign up for one of these days please e-mail us at tennis[at]u.washington.edu and let us know. The deadline for this tournament is Saturday, 20 February 2009.

OSU Matches @ UW

OSU will be coming to Seattle on the 7th of March 2009 and we have indoor courts from 1-3:30pm and we will again probably be able to play a pro set with ads. I will also try to get some outdoor courts for outside later that day probably from 3:30-5:30pm if the weather is good. Please let us know if you are interested in this match too! The deadline for this tournament is Saturday, 28 February 2009.

The Viking Showdown 2009

Our next major tournament is the Viking Showdown hosted by Western Washington University in Bellingham. It will be held January 16th and 17th (MLK 3-day weekend) against other colleges in the PNW region. We are looking to send two teams of 5 guys and 5 girls (10 guys and 10 girls overall), based on the ladder and who signs up first.

$25 per person to cover travel expenses and hotel reservations. (*note we NEED drivers to take people up to the tournament)

Preliminary Traveling Details: We will leave for Bellingham on Friday and play later that day. We will stay the night in Bellingham and play again on Saturday and then head for home (hopefully with a big trophy). We will send an additional email about the specifics when the date gets closer.

Grand Spankin' New Years Tourney

The HTC is having another inter-club tournament to kick start the 2009 new year. There will be 3 categories contested in this tournament: Men's doubles, Women's doubles, and Mixed doubles and each member can participate in up to two categories only. The entrance fee is $10 (strictly for HTC members only). For more details, see the info below.

HTC's Annual Ranking Tournament 2008

This is our second annual ranking (Ladder) tournament. This tournament gives an objective means of measuring relative skills of our members and also creates a systematic way of creating teams for tournaments. Not only that, the tournament also provides an opportunity to show and improve your skills.

**Note: if you do not participate then you'll be placed at the bottom of the ladder regardless of skill level.

Rules: This tournament is IMA format, double elimination. Matches will consist of best of three sets (ad-scoring). Once the draw is created, you will have one week to complete your match.

ENTRY to this tournament is now CLOSED
Entry Fee: Two (2) new cans of tennis balls. Players are required to provide their own tennis balls for each match. (Ideally each player brings a new can to the match, opens one can to play the match and the winner keeps the unopened can for the next round)

Eligibility: HTC Member in good standing (ie. paid dues)

Gobble yo' Mixed Doubles Thanksgiving Tournament

Not going to the Apple Cup? Got the rainy blues? Well, grab a partner (of the opposite gender, of course) and sign up for the Gobble yo' Mixed Doubles Thanksgiving Tournament! Don't have a partner? Sign up and we'll try to match you with someone.

Entry Price: $5/player, must be a member that has paid their membership dues

USTA Campus Championship - Pacific Northwest 2008

HTC sent three teams to Beaverton, Oregon to compete in the 2008 USTA Campus Championships. In the Winners Bracket, Team 1 reached the quarter finals where they were edged out 21-24 by University of Oregon #1. In the Consolation Bracket, Teams 2 and 3 both placed 1st and 2nd in their groupings. COngratulations!

This is our kickoff event of the year! Come join us at the Nordstrom Tennis Center for food, fun, and games. For only $5, you can play tennis at the indoor Tennis Center and get a Chipotle burrito for lunch!
