Alaska Skate
Bathyraja parmifera

Alaska skate

One of three types of skates that turned up in our net; the others were B. interrupta and B. beringi. If they survived the trip to the surface, they usually got back to the water alive. They bent their back in in N-shaped arc with their tail in the air in displeasure at being handled. The large individual in the first image is a male; the claspers are very visible. The smaller individual is a female.
