Blue King Crab
Paralithodes platypus

Blue king crab

Hermit crabs are more closely related to these large armor-plated fellows than they are to other crabs. There was a large commercial fishery for these and red king crabs, but drops in the population have required tighter limits on quantities caught. The spines necessitate that king crabs consume more calcium between moltings than their smoother cousins.
