How To Join

Undergraduate: To become a member, you must be in the top eighth of your junior class or top fifth of your senior class while enrolled in College of Engineering.

Graduate: To become a member, you must be in the top half of your class or obtain a letter of recommendation from your primary academic advisor.  In either case, you must have completed at least 50% of your coursework including research.

You must also:

  1. Attend an information meeting or make alternative arrangements with the president. Information meetings for Spring 2008 are scheduled for:
    1. Mondat April 28th at 1:30pm in EEB 403
    2. Tuesday, April 29th at 5:00pm in EEB 403
      • Note: Information sessions have already passed. If you would still like to join and find out more please send an e-mail to tbpuw@u.washington.edu to get more information or schedule an office hour.
  2. Write a 500-word essay describing why you are interested in joining and what qualities you will bring to Tau Beta Pi
  3. Complete three hours of community service every quarter you attend the UW
  4. Meet an officer to fill out two catalog cards
  5. Attend an initiation ceremony
  6. Pay a lifetime membership fee of $65 (make checks payable to Tau Beta Pi)
Note: If you are unable to meet the additional requirements but are interested in joining, please contact an officer as soon as possible.
