Capitalizing on the strong network of alumni in the Seattle area, Strange Coupling was formed in 2002 to establish a meaningful connection between former and current University of Washington art students. The organization continues to expand its vision by extending these connections to the many established and emerging artists in Seattle who have generously shared their talents, insights and encouragement with students.
Remaining independent and student-run, Strange Coupling holds an annual themed silent art auction in December to raise funds for the annual "Coupling" exhibition held in the spring. Organized by the members of Strange Coupling, "Coupling" is intended to encourage artists on both sides to explore different materials and perspectives, as well as to intimately understand the collaborative process.

The Primary aims of Strange Coupling are:
1) to expand students' artistic experiences beyond the academic realm.
2) to facilitate the transition of students between school and the professional art world.
3) to encourage communication with artists outside UW.
Through the events and exhibitions throughout the year, Strange Coupling fosters an essential ongoing dialogue between UW Students, practicing artists, art supporters, and other groups and individuals involved in the local art community. |
