Forbes Magazine (Oct 2003)
rated Squash the #1 healthiest sport in the world!
If you play squash, you know why. If you've never played, then it's time you try!
In 2003, Jason Harris-Boundy and Sushant Jain created the Squash Club at UW to:
1) promote the sport, 2) create community among players, 3) enhance sports skills
and fitness, 4) develop and support an undergraduate team, and 5) have fun. Since
it began, over 150 people have played 1000+ matches in the club's squash leagues!
Club Activities
The Squash Club offers a variety of activities, whether for the complete beginner
who’s never heard of the game or for the highly competitive player. These include:
Club Membership
Come be part of one of UW’s newest club sports! All current UW students and
faculty/staff members may join the Squash Club. Faculty/staff members, however,
must also have a current IMA membership prior to participation, which can be
purchased at the member services desk during normal IMA hours.
The general public, UW alumni, UW extension, branch campus and experimental
college students are not eligible to be active members in the club sports program,
but can still play an important role in developing the squash program at UW.
Husky Undergrad Team
One of the more exciting developments in the squash program at UW is the creation
of a student team, officially registered for 2004-05 as an "emerging team" in the
Collegiate Squash Association (CSA). In their debut CSA match, the Husky team
hosted and SQUASHED Cal's team 9-0 without losing a single game (details here)!
The Squash Dawgs traveled to Philadelphia for a 3-school round robin, to Stanford
for a 4-school round robin, and to Harvard for the CSA National Championships
where they won first place in the emerging team division (details here)!
In season, the team holds coached practices on Friday and Sunday afternoons,
3:30-5:30pm. If you're an undergrad and want to be part of the team or subscribe
to its email list, please contact team reps Norman Wilson or
Saumil Gandhi.
To help support the team, please contact team advisor Michael Bishop.

Prior to participating in any club activity, members must also sign a waiver card,
available on the bulletin board by the IMA international squash courts.
Monthly League / Club Practice
The monthly league organizes players into small groups, typically 5-6 of similar skill.
At each month's end, players with highest/lowest points move up/down to new groups.
More league info at: http://students.washington.edu/squash/league_rules.htm
Most league players schedule their individual matches at various, mutually convenient
times. October through March, the Squash Club reserves courts 3 & 4 on Tuesdays
6:30-9:30pm for club practice and SSRA exchange matches.
IMA Sports Skills Classes
The UW Department of Recreational Sports also offers squash skills classes during
Autumn and Winter quarters (for a nominal fee). The Beginner/Intermediate class is
held on Mon/Wed 5:30-6:30pm, and the Advanced class on Tue/Thu 5:30-6:30pm.

New Courts
In 2003, the UW added four new, state-of-the-art international squash courts to
its six existing North American courts. More court and reservation info at:
