How to reserve equipment for your group
For now...
At this time, we can only do reservations by e-mail. E-mail us at source@u.washington.edu with your group name, the desired equipment, the date you need it for, and how long you intend on borrowing it.
You don't need a reservation to check out equipment; we can check anything out to you on a walk-in basis as long as we have the equipment available.
In the future...
We've put in a request to get an online reservation system--if we get it, it will either be available after Spring Break or in Fall 2008. At that time, you'll be able to put in equipment requests online, know what equipment is available when, and peruse our equipment catalog at your leisure.
Equipment for checkout & reserve
Banner Material
Our banner material is available ONLY for use in the Kane Hall banner program (website here). We have grey tarps that you can use and duct tape available in blue, yellow, green, red, and white. You should have a reservation with the SAO office before using our banner material. We ask that you make your banner in the resource center (or just outside in the hall). Banner material can be checked out for up to two weeks.
Boombox
Our boombox uses rechargable batteries (which we supply), so you don't have to worry about a r source. Also, the highest volume on the boombox complies with university code (which means it isn't very loud, but you won't get in trouble for using it). It has a radio, CD player, and cassette player.
Canopies
We have 12 blue canopies that measure 10' by 10'. Each canopy folds up for easy transportation (they are quite heavy though). We recommend that you have at least two people to put up and take down the canopy.
Chairs
We have 30 green lawn chairs and 5 folding chairs (both pictured at right). It's not very often that every chair is checked out, but it does happen occasionally, so you might want to make a reservation if you want to be on the safe side.
Digital Camera
We have an Olympus C-730 Ultra Zoom digital camera with a 3.2 megapixel CCD and a 128 megabyte SD card. You can view Olympus's product description of this camera here (artwork by Elizabet Wendt).
Digital Projector
We have two digital projectors. One is a Hitachi CP-X340 (see here for a product description), and the other is a Hitachi CPX2 XGA (see here for a product description). Both projectors come with a 6' VGA cable, a 15' VGA cable, power cord, and a remote controller. The VGA cables need an adapter to work with Mac laptops (which we do not supply). If you only have a Mac and don't have the adapter, you can check out our Dell PC for use with the projector.
Easels
We have four wooden easels as pictured at left, and another easel with a whiteboard attached (scroll down for the whiteboard).
Electric Bullhorn
We have two electric bullhorns available for checkout. They take D size batteries, which we provide (they're rechargeable). To operate the bullhorn, use the volume dial on the part that looks like a walkie-talkie and press the button on the side while speaking into it.
Extension Cord
We have two orange 50 foot extension cords and two yellow 25 foot extension cords available for checkout. Both the 50 and 25 foot cords use type B plugs (i.e. 3 pins instead of 2).
Hand-trucks
Three hand-trucks are available for checkout. We have a black flatbed that is useful for transporting canopies and tables at the same time, a blue adjustable hand-truck that can transport many tables at the same time, and a silver upright handtruck that is useful for transporting a single table or canopy.
Laptop
We have a Dell Latitude C540. It runs Windows 2000 Professional, has a wireless card, Adobe Creative Suite 2 (Photoshop, Illustrator etc.), Microsoft Office 2002, an FTP client, and other miscellaneous programs. As with all computers in the Resource Center, both the ID and password are "user".
Overhead Projector
There is one overhead projector available for chekcout. We also have overhead transparencies available to print/write on.
Projection Screens
Two projection screens pictured at left are available for checkout. The screen on the far left is easier to transport and set-up; the other screen stands on a tripod (but is just as functional).
Sandwich Board
There is one sandwich board available for daytime checkout only. There are no overnight checkouts for the sandwich board. We have already gone through the appropriate measures to get a sandwich board approved for use on the grounds by the Grounds Improvement Advisory Committee, so there is no need to apply for its use outside of making a reservation with us. Should you wish to use a sandwich board other than ours, you will have to go through an application process and make a $35 refundable deposit. For more information about this process, visit http://depts.washington.edu/sao/hb_advertising.php and scroll down to 'Guidelines for Sandwich Board Signs on Campus'.
Staple Guns
Three staple guns are available for checkout. We also checkout boxes of staples if you anticipate stapling a high volume of flyers. The staple guns are all heavy duty. We supply 9/16" T50 Arrow staples (these are available at Hardwicks if you run out)
Tables
Pictured at left is a 6 foot table, and at right is a 4 foot table. We have 18 six foot tables, 3 four foot tables, and two card tables, all available for checkout on a walk-in basis and by reservation.
TV
We have a TV cart with a VCR player, a DVD player, and a 27" Color Toshiba TV. Should you wish to use this on the HUB lawn, you will need to reserve the lawn two weeks in advance (to do so, go to HUB Reservations on the second floor of the HUB).
Whiteboard
We have one whiteboard-easel. Dry erase pens and an eraser are available for checkout as well.
