Shredding for the Cure

Ever hear the joke “What’s the difference between a snowboard and a vacuum cleaner? Where you attach the dirtbag!” Well, now you have some defense. This past weekend 26 HST members participated in the annual Hope on the Slopes at Steven’s Pass. The event is a 24-hour ski and snowboard festival to raise money to support the mission of the American Cancer Society and promote cancer awareness. Participants have their vertical feet tracked during the event via the RFID ticket system at Steven’s and there are various awards for top finishers, including a free seasons pass for the next season for the college skier/boarder who logs the most vertical feet. But the real winner is the ACS. This year the event raised $169,350 in donations (HST contributed a respectable $3,387). The team absolutely killed it, with 3 members finishing in the top 25 (out of 780). Overall, HST members rode a whopping 1,459,832 vertical feet during the event, the equivalent of 50 trips down Everest, and came in 2nd place overall. To quote former HST President Alex Loddengaard, “WHAMMY!”

Here’s a sweet collection of photos turned video taken by our HST homies Trevor and Claire documenting each run of the event:
