Student Chapter Night
The Annual Student Night with the PNW (professional) Chapter will be May 7th at the Waterfront Activities Center on the UW Campus. The cost is $15 for students, and the first 20 students who register will have their registration fee refunded! Register now or view the full details here.

Microsoft Library Crawl! Monday April 27 at 1pm

Another Library Crawl is coming up! This time we will be heading over to Redmond to tour the ultra-new Microsoft Library facilities at 1pm on Monday April 27. There is a limit of 12 participants and signup details will be sent out soon.

2009 Frost-Gershenfeld Travel Award

Don't forget the SLA 2009 Annual Conference, June 14-17 in Washington DC. And, if you're looking for funding to attend, please consider the annual Frost-Gershenfeld Travel Award.

A student enrolled in the Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program at the Information School will receive an award of $1,200 to help cover expenses of attending this conference! This award is underwritten by Nancy Gershenfeld in memory of Roxanna Frost, the late Director of the Microsoft Corporate Library and an alumna of the University of Washington MLIS program who passionately supported special libraries and the leadership potential in each member of the organization.

iCareer Week Panel: Friday Jan 9th @ 5:30pm

Interested in how technology is improving and increasing access to information? Curious about the role of IT professionals working in diverse information settings as public and special libraries, nonprofit organizations, and corporations? Or the benefit a library degree has for IT professionals? Or what technologies Library students should be proficient in as they begin their careers? We'll discuss these and other questions you might have at our iCareerWeek event.

The evening starts at 5:30 with a panel discussion moderated by Nancy Gershenfeld and featuring these local technology pros:
• Chyenne Bidart, Systems Analyst, T-Mobile
• Marilyn Sheck, Director of Information Technology, Seattle Public Library
• Kathleen Walsh, Information Systems Analyst, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
• Jennifer Ward, Head of Web Services, UW Libraries

Panel runs from 5:30-6:45pm on Friday January 9th in MGH 420. A reception, co-sponsored by ALISS, immediately follows.

SLA Panel during iCareer Week: Jan. 9th

On Friday Jan 9, as part of iCareer Week, SLA-UW will host a panel discussion with several local technical professionals who have an MLIS or MLS degree. Whether their title is Systems Librarian, Information Systems Analyst, or Director of Technology, their MLIS degree has had a positive effect on their professional development. Come meet these local professionals, hear what skills are being sought by employers, and find out how to prepare for these jobs during your time at the iSchool. Time and location to be announced.

Library Crawl coming up: Nov. 21st

Join SLA-UW for our traditional UW Library Crawl & happy hour, to be held on Friday Nov 21! Get to know the UW libraries beyond Suzzallo or Odegaard. This is one of our most popular traditions: we'll visit 2-3 of the subject or discipline specific libraries on campus, followed by a happy hour! See our archives for some of the ones we've done in years past. We're busy working out the details, but possible targets this quarter are the Foster Business Library, Architecture & Urban Planning Library, and/or the Miller Horticulture Library.
