Social Events
Having fun and making connections with others in the Greek and UW community is important to Sigma Kappa. Our chapter puts on many social events throughout the year that are widely attended.
Each quarter we have a large dance. In the fall we have a Halloween cruise around Elliot Bay where we and our dates where Halloween costumes. Each winter we have our Violet Formal, a dance that celebrates the conclusion of our Ultra-Violet Campaign and King of the Castle competition. In the spring we have a dance to honor our graduating seniors.
In addition to dances, Sigma Kappa has many grab-a-dates (events where members can invite any date they would like) and exchanges with fraternities. Some favorite events we have recently had include a grab-a-date at Gameworks, a yoga exchange, a disco themed roller-skating grab-a-date, and a gingerbread house making exchange.
Sisterhood Events
Sisterhood is perpetual- it is present while we walk to class together, eat meals with each other, or just watch movies in our lounge. In addition, we also host specific sisterhood events that give members an opportunity to experience fun things with their sisters. Recently, we had a sisterhood event at the Woodland Park Zoo. Other events we have include retreats at camps or cabins, trips to local sporting events such as Sounders games, and other adventures in the Seattle community.
Events for Parents & Family Members
Although Sigma Kappa is somewhat of a family itself, we value the parents and other family members of all of our members. We encourage family members to be involved in our lives while we are in college and Sigma Kappa. Each year we hold multiple events where members' families are invited to our home or to go out in the Seattle community with us.
Every year we host a Mother-Daughter Tea and Father-Daughter Mariners Game Night. Of course, members may bring any family member to these events- not just their mom or dad. Family members are also invited to our home for Mock Recruitment in September, where the chapter will give house tours and perform door chants, as well as Presentation, where new members are officially introduced and recognized.
Parents are also encouraged to join Parents' Club. This group meets monthly and supports Sigma Kappa in a number of ways. Each quarter they donate money to pay for "spreads," snacks for late at night when we all are studying for finals. They also help our Corporation Board with minor improvements for our home, and give the chapter an annual gift. In the past, Parents' Club has donated Mac computers for our study room and workout equipment for our lounge.
