about
Local History
On April 29th, 1910, fourteen University of Washington students became the first initiates of the Mu chapter of Sigma Kappa. Since this time, over 2,600 women have followed in their footsteps and joined our sisterhood. Our chapter is proud to have had two of its members serve as Sigma Kappa National Presidents.

National History
Mary Caffrey Low Carver, Elizabeth Gorham Hoag, Ida Mabel Fuller Pierce, Frances Elliotl Mann Hall, and Louise Helen Coburn were the only female students at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. These young women desired to create a literary and social society, and on November 9, 1874, the faculty from the college approved a petition to establish Sigma Kappa Sorority. From this date forward, the sorority has flourished into a national organization that values personal growth, service, friendship and loyalty.
