7th Annual Western Regional International Health Conference

The UW Department of Global Health has teamed up with the Global Health Education Consortium (GHEC) to host the 7th Annual Western Regional International Health Conference/18th Annual GHEC Conference on April 3-5, 2009 at the University of Washington campus in Seattle, WA.

This year’s theme is Transcending Global Health Barriers: Education and Action, and features keynote speaker Harriet Fulbright, director of the Fulbright Center, a non-profit dedicated to foster peace and justice through collaboration
This conference regularly attracts hundreds of students, faculty, and staff of global health departments and organizations. This is a great place to explore your ideas for a career in the field, no matter what your profession or perspective.

The $50 conference fee includes:
- Full two-day conference on Saturday and Sunday, April 4-5, with over 44 breakout sessions and two plenaries exploring topics from HIV vaccine development, to public vs. private global health interventions, to educating a global healthcare workforce.
- Evening Lancet reception with drinks and appetizers on April 4th.
- Two days of continental breakfasts and coffee breaks.
- Poster session with 100 posters.
- Numerous networking opportunities with local and international global health professionals and students.
- Two rooms of exhibitor tables with representatives from local and global organizations and universities.
- Participants from a wide range of disciplines including medicine, public health, nursing, engineering, law, public affairs, pharmacy, dental, business, etc.

For an additional $50 you can attend the pre-conference on Friday, April 3, which includes:
- Career clinics and with sessions on global health career development.

Join Students for Equal Health for a fun and exciting badminton tournament fundraiser! All proceeds will go to the Sinsoluka Foundation who is dedicated to help improve the lives of impoverished youth in Quito, Ecuador.

Date: Sunday, February 22nd
Time: 12-7PM
Location: IMA Gym B
Fees: $5 per person & event (in advance - pay below), $7 (at the door)
Events: Men’s & Women’s Singles, Doubles & Mixed Doubles
All skill levels welcome.
Food will be provided.

Winter Meetings

Meetings for winter quarter will be Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30 PM in Thomson 134. Our first meeting is Wednesday, January 7th.

This quarter we'll be continuing our volunteer opportunities and round table discussions, and kicking off our middle school curriculum and Sinsoluka fundraising. Everyone is welcome to come to the meetings to find out more about how you can get involved. Hope to see you there!
