A little bit about me.. Originally from Switzerland, I am an Aerospace Engineer (BS, MS) turned Planetary Scientists / Astrobiologist.

I am a doctoral student in the department of Earth and Space Sciences and enrolled in the Astrobiology Program at the University of Washington. My research is centered around early planetary environments. Through the tools of Geology, Geomorpholoy and Geobiology, I strive to unravel what the environments of early Earth and early Mars were 2+ billion years ago.

I have recently been getting more involved with deep-sea exploration, and have been involved with two cruises on-board the R/V Atlantis. I got the opportunity to explore the sea-floor both robotically (ROV Jason), and physically (DSV Alvin).

My work in engineering was centered around the fluid physics and heat transfer of unsteady condensing and evaporating fluids (used in spacecraft thermal systems for example), although lately, my interests have shifted to the versatility of H2/O2 fuel-cells as secondary power systems.

Outside academics, I am involved with the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promote the involvement of youth in the world's space programs, and their yearly congress, the Space Generation Congress (SGC).

I am the founder of Blue Marble Space, a non-profit dedicated to promoting the Blue Marble as a symbol of international unity in space exploration. Find out more at http://www.oneflaginspace.org. Join the facebook group!

I particularly enjoy outdoor activities; whether hiking or climbing, playing hoops on Friday's, frisbee in the spring, or skiing/snowboarding in the winter, and flying the C-152 when I can afford it, it is hard to keep me inside

"A leader is best when people barely know he exists, not so good when people obey and acclaim him, worst when they despise him. But of a good leader, who talks little, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say, 'We did this ourselves.' "
