What is UW Sailing Team?
The UW Sailing Team is a club sport at the University of Washington in Seattle and a member of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA). The UW is a part of the Northwest District (NWICSA). The UW Sailing Team is a part of the Washington Yacht Club at the UW and regularly practices at Sail Sand Point on Lake Washington.. We are currently the top ranked club team in the country.
Who are the Memebers?
Any UW undergraduate student may participate on the team, regardless of experience. Members of the team include experienced national competitors and novice racers. Some of our best crews have even come to college having never sailed before. To find out who this year's members are, check out the Team Roster page.
Where and When Does the Team Compete?
The UW Sailing Team competes year round, mainly on weekends. Many regattas are held at schools in the Northwest District, but the team also travels all over the country. National Championships are held every year, and the UW has a history of qualifying to compete in these events. To see this year's regatta schedule, check out the Schedule page. The sailing team currently practices on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30 until ~5:30pm at Sail Sand Point.

Most regattas are sailed double handed on Flying Juniors (FJ's), and 420's. Lasers are competed single handed. There is also competition in sloops such as J/24's. The team currently practices in FJ's.
How do I join?
If you are a UW undergraduate student with a full course load and have an interest in dinghy racing, you are eligible to join the team. You don't need any racing experience (but some sailing experience is useful). Please be aware that the sailing team is competetive and requires a certain degree of commitment. For information on joining the team, contact Marin Van Schaik .
