UW Takes 1st and 2nd at Rainier Cup
This year's NWICSA Rainier Cup Intersection was a windy weekend of 16-18 knot easterlies on Saturday and classic 10-15 knot gorge sailing on Sunday. A total of 12 races were completed. UW's Varsity Co-ed team took first followed by the Varsity UW Womens team in second. JV also took 1st and 2nd in their divisions. Overall it was a fantastic weekend of challenging conditions and exciting sailing! Video and photos from the regatta can be found here. Now the team prepares for Women's National Qualifiers this coming weekend.

NW Team Race on Orcas
Sailors were welcomed to Orcas Island with clear skies, warm temperatures, and decent breeze. We sailed digital N courses averaging fifteen minutes in V-15's. The nine teams were seeded into two round robins, both of which were completed before the wind died and shifted. Qualifying for the Gold fleet were UW 1, WWU 1, UO, UW 2 and in the Silver, WWU 2, OSU, PSU, WSU, LC. No protests were filed. Thank you to Western Washington for coordinating and cooking a wonderful spaghetti dinner! Sunday followed with slightly cooler and overcast, but with a 8-10 knot northerly. Starting early, Gold fleet completed two round robins and Silver fleet completed one. In an attempt to catch a fast-filling ferry, UO forfeited two races in the second Gold fleet round robin. No protests filed. Because of the rush to catch the ferry, we did not get the opportunity to thank the people and organizations that made this regatta possible. Big thanks to race committee Charissa Benson and Kyle Eaton. Thanks also to Burke Thomas and Orcas Island HS for use of their boats, and Camp Moran for providing affordable lodging for the weekend. Thanks to all the teams for making the long drive to the second annual San Juan Islands regatta!
Results: 1. UW 1: 5-1
2. WWU 1: 4-2
3. UW 2: 3-3
4. UO: 0-6
5. WWU 2: 4-0
6. OSU: 2-2*
7. PSU: 2-2*
8. WSU: 2-2*
9. LC: 0-4
* Three-way tie: OSU beat PSU, PSU beat WSU, WSU beat OSU.

Spring Season Sailing
It may only be February, but spring sailing is here! And from looking outside, you'd almost believe it. The sun was shining on this weekend's NW Clinic hosted by UW Sailing Team at Sail Sand Point. Three days of fleet racing, team racing and coaching. With no wind on sunday the district spent most of the daying going over chalk talk and tatics. Saturday brought in an easterly of 7-10 knots and got in some fleet racing. Sunday was light wind and devoted to team racing tactics. Thank you to everyone who came to coach. Now the UW team as well as other Northwest district teams are getting ready to head to Orcas Island this coming weekend for a team racing clinic.

A Thank you to all of our supporters...
A huge thank you to all the friends, family and alumni of UW Sailing who joined us this Friday at the Seattle Yacht Club for our Annual Alumni Auction and Dinner Fundraiser as well as those who donated in support. Through your generosity we raised almost $7,500 from auction bids and donations! As those of you who are past college sailors or friends and family of current sailors know, it takes the invested interest of many to stay competitive in colligate sailing and continue to provide this experience to UW students. We are so grateful for all your support. The fundraising from this event will help the team to reach many of its goals for the upcoming seasons including hiring a full time coach, participating in a greater number of intersectional regattas across the country, preparing for national qualifiers, recruiting new members, travel expenses, and other necessary costs for the team. We hope that those of you who were able to attend enjoyed the evening, we certainly enjoy getting to spend time with you. Any suggestions or comments on the event would be greatly appreciated as we are always looking to improve for the coming years! Pictures from the event will be posted soon.

Fall 2007 Sailing Update
Summer is quickly coming to a close, which means the 2007 fall sailing season is just around the corner. Here are some updates on what is happening with the UW Sailing Team:
> We will be holding a UW Sailing informational meeting October 1st at 7 pm at the IMA room 204. This will be a great chance to meet memebers of the team, find out more general info, and give input on the upcoming season.
> Our first official practice will be the following day, October 2nd at Sail Sand Point. Times for practices will be discussed at the informational meeting but, as in the past, it will likely be 2:30 till 5:00pm. Carpools to and from campus/Sand Point will be arranged and bus routes 74 and 75 run directly there.
> Our first NW District regatta actually happens before school and official practices begin, this is Cougar Cup hosted by WSU at Vantage, WA. If you are an interested new memeber and would like to sail in this regatta send Marin Van Schaik an email!
> In preparation for Cougar Cup, we’ll also be having informal practices September 17th - 21th at Sail Sand Point at 4:30pm. Feel free to come by if you are in town.

UW Sailing Gear Order
We will be ordering coats and hooded sweatshirts in the styles that we agreed upon in the meeting last week, we just need to get the final count on who wants what. We had a few of the coats down at St. Francis this weekend and it looked like they worked great, so if you're on the edge, you should talk to somebody who went to the regatta. Everybody interested should send Nick an email with the size you want. Also, we aren't sure about the sweatshirts yet, but if you are interested in one, just let Nick know and he'll get that order going as well. Paul will be going down the design center to get the details worked out tomorrow, so everybody needs to email Nick back ASAP.
