It is being promoted as open to other yacht clubs but held at the WAC. - Focus this quarter is on offering smaller classes and increasing retention. Please provide input to this. - Plans to meet with the sail fleet captain to determine work needed on the sails. - The pop rivets are in need of an overhaul. It still needs to be determined the status of the masts regarding fittings or water-tightness. Approved NEW BUSINESS: Motion: Contact all members to remind them that we are really Approved in need of help at the next work party due to the quantity of work. Motion: To make an asking price of $2,000 for the Laser II Approved that someone is interested in buying. This does not include a dolly. Motion: That boats be made available for the racing team. Delayed It is not known yet if this would conflict with classes. Motion: Take the Supercat off the market and move it into Approved the fleet as people are willing to repair it and sail it. Motion: For the club to sponsor 505 sailors from other yacht Approved clubs to use our docks for a sailing event which the WYC is invited to. Motion: For the lasers to be taken overnight by Alex Coburn & Approved Wayne for the Frigid Digit. It will not involved taking the whalers overnight. Motion: For Rich Gile to buy a new computer under $1000 for Approved the club. It will be delivered in two weeks from today (1/8/01). Motion & New Executive Council Policy: TABLED To make the extra wetsuits available for anyone to use on a check-out basis. It is unclear about the whether they are needed for sailboarding. Under Discussion: - Having a movie night for the WYC membership. - To make posters for BOTL. - To provide reimbursement when a member swaps burgees with another yacht club. Motion: To adjourn. Approved Time 20:30 *** WYC *** WYC MEETING MINUTES January 22, 2001 19:00 – 19:30 COMMODORE: (John Pyles) Membership is down. This is reflected in lesson sign-ups and finances. Members are encouraged to take posters from tonight’s meeting to put up around campus. VICE-COMMODORE: (Justin Fallstrom) Absent. Written report stated that on March 3, 2001 the USCG will come to the WAC to discuss flare demonstration and safety. Next quarter there will be further educational events for the club. REAR COMMODORES: (Anne-Teague Landis & Steph Hall) Last weekend there was a regatta in Portland. They sailed in different pairs and still won. There was a district meeting as well. HEAD FLEET CAPTAIN: (Eva Wong) Absent. LASER FLEET CAPTAIN: (Jim Pederson) Absent. A written report from Randy Eakin stated that the lasers are still only barely sailable. The next step is working on the leaky hull-deck seams. They need to be identified and sealed. Then lines that are too short, too fat or too old need to be replaced with appropriately sized lines. The outhauls, cunninghams and even mainsheets are way too short and often too fat. This is causing cleats to ‘fail’ and the trimming to be difficult, at best. Laura Feinstein had an excellent idea and follow-through on populating the work parties. The last two have been a raging success! DOUBLE-HANDED FLEET CAPTAIN: (VACANT) Written report from Randy Eakin stated that someone needs to manufacture a new FJ tiller after the blue deck tiller design. The piece of wood originally thought to be available is no longer available. The sailing team may be able to take up this project. The novice class had only two members. Day sailing trips and evening single-night sails may be best now for the club. It may be helpful for the affiliates and other keelboat owners to arrange these types of sails. 505 FLEET CAPTAIN: (Andrew Roberts) The Tidalwave has been sold and will be picked up in two weeks. We still have two up and running. KEELBOAT FLEET CAPTAIN: (Roy Ward) Absent. CATAMARAN FLEET CAPTAIN: (Julia Rutherford) There was a class of three people this weekend. The big cat still needs work and the sails need telltales. SAILBOARD FLEET CAPTAIN: (John Courter) Absent. DAYSAILOR FLEET CAPTAINS: (Craig Harris & Jay Kenney) Absent. BARGE FLEET CAPTAIN: (Dan Callahan) A written report from Randy Eakin stated that the whalers are a major problem. The new barge is not working even with a battery and the ‘sale’ barge is still waiting. Andy Sack will look at the big barge. SAIL FLEET CAPTAIN: (Laura Feinstein) Boat covers are being made for the Flying Scott. Charlotte’s cushions are being cleaned. The covers have been washed but there is still a faint ordor. The fleet sails are in fairly good working order. HISTORIAN: (Bob Sitton) Absent. PUBLICITY: (VACANT) It appears that the lack of posters had to be a significant culprit in the membership problems this quarter. We really need a publicity chair. Anyone interested, please notify John or Justin. PROGRAM DIRECTOR: (Cathy Dahle) During classes the program director will stop in and let new members know about club activities and ways to get further involved. Also, starting this Friday 1/26/01 there will be an open brown bag lunch in the office for anyone who wants to drop in to eat, catch-up on club events, look at sailing magazines, etc. It will be every Friday 12noon or 12:30 as people get out of class or a break from work.
