WYC MEETING MINUTES 13Feb06

Meeting called to order at 1904.

OFFICERS:

COMMODORE (Josh Russell): 
The club is being assessed a $1561 fee for the damage done to the boating safety cables on the 520 bridge this fall by two club lasers.  Due to processing difficulties with the insurance, sailing is temporarily suspended until the insurance situation is figured out. (Suspension removed 12/14/2006).

VICE COMMODORE (Josh Rusk):
The club had a successful regatta Frostbite Regatta this past weekend.  A survey was posted online regarding the club's services.  The results were passed around the table.

REAR COMMODORES (Paul Stewart (present) and Brendan Fahey (absent)):
There was a regatta in Bellingham; only one race could be held due to uncooperative wind.  A race clinic is being held this weekend at Sand Point for intercollegiate racers. Sweatshirt available, email Brendan if you've ordered and haven't picked up, otherwise they'll be gone.  They are also up for sale to everyone else.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR (Adam Thorne): No report

SNOOZE'N'CRUISE: (Amy Schantz): absent

FLEET CAPTAIN'S REPORTS:

HEAD FLEET CAPTAIN (Goran Zivkovic): No report

BRAVO FLEET CAPTAIN (Rich Gile): absent

LASER FLEET CAPTAIN (Steve Leidel):  
There are four used Lasers for sale in Portland (2003 for ~$4000, and 3 late 70's/early 80's for ~2100).  Possibly offered 3 older for $6000 or all for $10000.  Negotiation is possible, but he is a new enterprise.  (Steve later proposed a budget in order to have the finances to acquire these Lasers if so decided.)

Would like to expand the SH fleet to include more "Tupperware" boats like the Bravos.  They are generally easy to maintain and repair and were quite popular.  Additionally, they are more cost effective as the other hulls are more expensive to maintain.

Offered for consideration the future of the DH fleet; whether to stick with FJs or the Laser IIs.  To be decided with the fleet planning committee.

DOUBLE-HANDED FLEET CAPTAIN: (Kevin Hawkinson): 5 FJs and 2 Laser IIs are operational and ready for use.

PERFORMANCE FLEET CAPTAIN (Adrian Johnson):  The 505 went out this weekend and went smoothly.  The 470 has not been on the water yet, but it is fully operational.

KEELBOAT FLEET CAPTAIN (Andy Sack): absent

CATAMARAN FLEET CAPTAIN (VACANT): absent

SAILBOARD FLEET CAPTAIN (John Courter): absent

DAYSAILOR FLEET CAPTAINS (Craig Harris & Jay Kenney): absent

BARGE FLEET CAPTAIN (Ross Fleming):  The big whaler has a malfunctioning engine that doesn't stop when supposed to.  Repairs may need to be made.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE: (Diana El-Hinn):  The event this past weekend went well.  Looking for other events to plan throughout the quarter and is open (and eager) to suggestions for other events.

Old meeting minutes - 1/17/06, 1/30/06
Motion to approve.  Approved without corrections.
NEW BUSINESS:

Sailing team requested to borrow two FJs from this weekend until the 13/14th of May.
Motion to borrow. Motion approved.

DISCUSSION:
Budget proposal to the increase the SH new hull fund by $3000 dollars in order to acquire Lasers to expand the SH fleet.  Budget proposed, to be voted on next meeting.

Discussion about the future of SH and DH fleets.  Discussed selling FJs in order to get Lasers.  Topic is to be handled by the fleet planning committee, but deemed relevant to the budget proposal.

Planned to offer orientations and meetings for new members in order to introduce them to the club, boats, and sailing in general.  Orientation to follow the Boat On The Lawn.
