Go Sailing!
WYC provides many ways to get out on the water. But first you have to
stop reading the web and get down to the water!
For members who know nothing about sailing, we offer a comprehensive
lessons program. We will teach you
how to sail, and soon you will be sailing our boats unsupervised, with
confidence.
For members who know a thing or two about sailing, our
chiefs program allows members to
demonstrate skills in front of experienced club members and test out of lessons.
It's a quick and easy way to earn a rating, and get permission to sail our boats unsupervised.
You can also take the written tests during office
hours in the HUB.
For members working towards a rating and needing some practice before taking
the test, look for ratings examiner hours
or chief's hours which are frequently posted on the calendar, web, and/or on one
of the WYC e-mail lists. These hours are
for members to practice sailing or take tests. If you can't make those
hours, e-mail one of the active chiefs and
set up a time for supervised sailing or test taking.
Club cruises and "crew wanted" requests are usually announced on the WYC email list.
Join the wyc list and stay informed.
And finally, once a quarter (except winter quarter) the club organizes a large flotilla and sails to Blake Island
for an overnight cruise. Read about the Snooze n Cruise
here.
