WYC Keelboats

The Washington Yacht Club has a fleet of three keelboats that club members can rent for multi day cruises in Puget Sound.  Sometimes members take off for a week and sail all the way to Canada and back!

Members also own private boats and sometimes moor them at the WAC.  You can find out more on the member boats page.

The Keelboat Fleet

We currently have three keelboats.  Caravel is a Bristol 22, Charlotte is a Catalina 27, and Rascal is a Ranger 26.

Keelboat Lessons

The club teaches keelboat lessons as a part of its regular lessons program.  These classes cover large boat sail handling and navigation, as well as cruising systems like stoves and plumbing.

The WYC Burgee

The WYC burgee is a small flag that members fly proudly when sailing a keelboat.  Members can buy a burgee from the Program Director at the club office.  Flying a club burgee is often a requirement when using the facilities at reciprocal yacht clubs.

Reciprocal Moorage

The Washington Yacht Club exchanges reciprocal mooring privileges with other yacht clubs in the US and Canada.  This lets club members park a boat at many Puget Sound locations one night for free!  Find out more in the Reciprocal Moorage section of the web site.

Pumpout Stations

Emptying a holding tank is a necessary responsibility for keelboat sailors.  The most convenient station for WYC members is the Marina Mart 24 Hour Pumpout on Lake Union.

About 3/4 the way down the west side of Lake Union is the Marina Mart, a tall store on shore with many boat houses and slips hiding its location.  Line yourself up with the south end of the store, and head towards shore.  Though there are no signs here, you will see a small shed next to a starboard side tie.  The pump out hose and pump are inside the shed.  The pump needs to be primed with a hose or a bucket of water (you need to supply the bucket or the hose yourself).
