SAF Meeting Minutes: January 15, 2002; 12:30pm
Business:
-Finance: We have no money! Currently the use of the forestry fund is a back-up option, however suggestions for fundraisers are needed and welcome.
-SAF Website: Edie has updated the website with habitat for humanity information, however the pictures are not yet posted. Also, the next date for the Spring Habitat for Humanity is not yet set, as there are no more available Saturday’s during Spring quarter. A weekday will be determined at a later date.
-Membership: The UW SAF chapter has gained 39 new members this year, however this number was only good enough to reach 4th place in the Membership challenge. With 95 new members, Humbolt State University won the $3500 purse while Virginia Tech (49 members) and Mississippi State (46 members) fell to second and third places, respectively. For every UW member gained however, there will be a $5 donation from the South Puget Sound Chapter towards the SAF catalogue, with which we can purchase select items to re-sell as a fundraiser.
-Blood Drive: We have collected enough signatures to sponsor a blood drive, so a date needs to be set for late February. Jason has agreed to head up a committee along with Edie, Patrick, and Kellie. The drive sign up is located at the Student Services Desk in Anderson Hall.
-Dream Job: Melissa has notified us that the candidates for the Dream Job lectures are still in the process of being selected and contacted. The lecture series will most likely take place on a Wednesday or Thursday during Spring quarter, with a 45min. presentation followed by a 45min. question and answer period. Funding for this event is limited (to bring in speakers), so once again, fundraising is in need.
-SAF State Conference: The dates for the SAF state conference have been changed to May 29-31 (Wed-Fri). The location has also been moved from Bellevue to the Salish Lodge at Snoqualmie Falls. We need volunteers to run the raffle, slots are:
Wednesday: 5pm-9pm
Thursday: 8am-5pm and again from 6pm-9pm
Friday: 8am-12pm.
Two people should be adequate for each slot, and workers will receive admission to the conference and meals during the shift. Otherwise there is a $50 student fee to attend the conference.
10 items need to be selected from the SAF catalogue that our chapter can re-sell at the conference for 100% profit (The South Puget Sound Chapter will donate these to us). Jason and Heather have agreed to select the items.
Also, Kellie is sending out for information regarding the legal technicalities of our raffle and silent auction operation (this may have to be a state registered raffle).
-We will have a joint meeting with the South Puget Sound Chapter sometime in April.
-FUNDRAISER: Jan. 23rd and 24th there will be a booksale in AND 22. The profit for each book sold by an SAF member will come to our chapter. So sign up and go sell books for an hour or two. Contact John for more information.
