Student AIDS Action Network, a non-profit student organization at UW, was started in 2003 by Tim Menza, a MD/Ph.D student, to increase awareness about the AIDS pandemic on campus. It is now a network of students fighting HIV/AIDS by
- Raising awareness of the medical, social, political, and economic ramifications of the disease locally and globally
- Opening forums of communication
- Educating ourselves and others about HIV/AIDS
- Collaborating with community organizations
- Collaborating with other students
- Learning how to talk to legislators about domestic and international issues surrounding HIV/AIDS, interact with them, and ask questions in order to bring about change
