UW Lambdas Spring 2K9 Rush

WHATISRUSH?
Rush is a brief time when we are recruiting new members for our organization. During this time you will learn about all aspects of Lambda Phi Epsilon Nationals and the Alpha Zeta Chapter. In addition, you will
meet brothers of the Alpha Zeta Chapter and other interested students (rushees) like yourself.
As we enter our 10th year on the University of Washington campus, we continue to seek new members that want to enrich their college experience and make a difference in their community. We encourage all
interested gentlemen with a passion for success, leadership, and excellence to come to our fall 2008 Rush
events.
WHYJOINFRATERNITIES?
First and most important, every member develops deep friendships that continue long after graduation. There is a sense of "all for one and one for all" that is lacking in other student organizations. Second, whether a member holds an office or simply carries out his fraternal duties, he becomes more responsible and dependable. The opportunities for leadership development in fraternities are incredible. Finally, each member now has a house and a new family and a home and family in which he can truly develop pride.
These characteristics add a fresh and exciting dimension to college life. In addition to receiving a diploma, you can pursue goals at a fraternal level. Fraternities can truly help develop a true sense of belonging and pride. These feelings separate a fraternity from a club or any other student organization.
By joining a fraternity you immediately gain access to a large social network, and let's face it, this is the first reason people consider fraternities. But the benefits of fraternity life go far beyond the extra-curricular.
You have access to active members and alumni who are always willing to help with your studies. For a first year student, this is invaluable, especially during stressful periods such as exams. Furthermore, alumni are an excellent resource that can help you find employment during school and when you graduate. Always remember that the more people you know the greater your chances of success in many areas of life.
Fraternities attract a diverse group of students from every discipline. Solidifying relationships with various specialists while you are in university can be extended to life outside of university. When you are finished school, you will want to involve yourself with people you can trust, especially with such matters as your finance, business, or health.
Each fraternity is structured to give all members an opportunity to gain experience by holding a position in running the business of the organization. Whether you are the President or a newly initiated member, each position offers you the chance to gain more interpersonal and organizational skills. Unlike other organization or clubs on campus which generally pursue a singular purpose, such as a sports team or an arts club, a fraternity covers a broader spectrum of continuous activities. These include self government, residence management, recreational activities, business and finance, and community service.
Because fraternities require the efforts of the membership to sustain themselves, it is paramount that we attract people who will contribute for continued success. We are not the elitist organization as we are sometimes charged. We simply need supportive players to grow.
Just like any organization, we have certain requirements which we feel should be met. Did you not have to meet certain requirements to gain admission into this University? Do you not have to meet certain requirements to make a sports team? Do you not have to meet certain requirements to secure a job? The process of selection is similar in many ways, only the content changes.
Essentially, you will solidify some of the best friendships of a lifetime in your fraternity, you will make a significant contribution to your community, and you will make a difference in the lives of the people in your present and your future.
WHYRUSHLAMBDAS?
Lambda Phi Epsilon is the largest international Asian-interest fraternity on the University of Washington Campus. With over 100 members in the AZ Chapter and thousands more spanning 48 chapters world wide, Lambda Phi Epsilon offers an experience second to none.
So what exactly do we offer?
- Networking -- Lambdas attract members of different backgrounds and academic disciplines. Building up relationships with a diverse group of people can be beneficial to your studies at UW and might help you land a job in the field you want right out of college.
- Personal Growth -- Lambdas offers all members the opportunity to hold positions that essentially runs the business of the fraternity. Each position offers you the chance to gain more interpersonal and organizational skills, and the experience you gain from all the responsibilities of each position teaches you life long skills that will benefit you in your future.
- Leadership -- Like our motto, "Leaders among men", we strive to develop every member's leadership skills and give them the opportunity to exercise these skills. We design our pledging program and structure our organization to help each member manifest their abilities and develop them into leaders.
- Brotherhood -- I may be slightly bias, but Lambdas offer the best brotherhood. It is self-evident in everything we do. The bond between every member is eternal and last way beyond the limits of college. It is truly an "all for one and one for all" feeling within this fraternity. I have many friends outside of this fraternity, but few I can truly call my brothers. However, within Lambdas, I can depend on every member as bros.
- Helping Community -- Whether it be on campus or off, Lambdas are known to be active volunteers to the community. From our national philanthropy, the Asian American Donor Program, to cleaning up the streets of the international district (adobt-a-street) Lambdas do what they can to give back to become assets to the community.
- The Experience -- Joining a social fraternity like Lambda Phi Epsilon is no doubt the best way to experience college. We mix with various sororities on campus, throw basketball tournaments, host multiple large venue parties, and a lot more. If you believe in balancing studies with fun, then joining Lambda Phi Epsilon might be the choice for you.
