Koun Khmer Amatak Productions (translated as Immortal Khmer Children)
was created to provide a strong foundation in which inspiring Khmer
actors and actresses can have their time in the spotlight. We being
Asian Americans know how hard it is to get decent roles in theater
and films. This production company hopes to eliminate the problem
by taking the time to produce their own works.
It all began with a play by the title of "Solar Eclipse of Soriya"
which was performed in June 2003 by a group of dedicated young Khmer
students. The play was about the Khmer Rouge atrocities during their
reign and two lives that were profoundly affected by the events.
This first play demonstrated just how much the Khmer community want
this sort of thing: to see the stories of their people be brought
on stage, a place many have not seen before. Those who had came to
support the play made it clear that they were proud to see such
events happening and wanted it to continue.
It is hoped that in the future we could produce not only plays
but also experiment with moviemaking, another arena where not
many Khmer actors or actresses have had the chance to take part in.
This production company is definately a ground breaker in the Seattle
area and perhaps it inspire other groups to do the same.
Please if you are at all interested in joining the group email
