Research

Contact between unrelated languages is my core area of interest, including both linguistic and demographic changes that arise from contact. So far my research has concerned the phonological adaptation of Chinese and Russian loanwords into different dialects of Modern Mongolian. My next project will look at language choice from generation to generation in Inner Mongolia, China. My academic advisor is Sharon Hargus.

I have mostly retired from translation in order to focus on schoolwork, but occasionally may take on specialized jobs. More info

Languages spoken (with regions)

• Mongolian (mostly Chahar, but I understand Khalkha and some of the Inner Mongolian dialects fairly well)
• Chinese (the sort of Northern-inflected Standard Mandarin that you find in Inner Mongolia, plus I understand a little bit of Shanxihua and a lot of Dongbeihua)
• Russian (just the basics)
• French (northeastern France)
• English (midwestern US)
