We are a research team at the University of Washington that designed and developed a portable ultrasound device for midwives in the developing world. The device costs about $3500 and consists of a netbook and USB transducer. We believe that an ultrasound device designed specifically for midwives has the potential to lessen the high maternal and infant mortality rates throughout the developing world.
