WSU Interview Questions, 2003 and 2004:

A list of questions asked to two former Pre-Vet society members during their interviews at Washington State University

Questions:

  1. Write an on-the-spot essay. First choice, “How does mad-cow disease affect the veterinary field?” Second choice, “How does computer-based education apply to the veterinary field?"
  2. What is your favorite breed (not species!) of animal?
  3. If you were a dog, what kind of dog would you be?
  4. How do you feel about euthanasia?
  5. How do you feel about animal research?
  6. How do you feel about performing surgery (during your third year on an animal that you know will be euthanized afterward) to learn surgical techniques?
  7. What is your greatest weakness?
  8. How do you handle confrontation? For example, how would you handle it if the author of one of your letters of recommendation actually talked about how you were a bad worker, a bad person, etc.
  9. Are there any questions you wish we had asked?
  10. Do you have any questions for us?
  11. What is your greatest confidence? What is a situation you were in that proved this?
  12. What are three uncommon qualities you have?
  13. What vaccines are dogs and cats given?
  14. What do you know about E.coli?
  15. What do you know about the West Nile Virus?
  16. What do you think about hunting as a means of population control?
  17. Let's say you owned a vet hospital, what would you do to make it stand out from other hospitals?
  18. Some one famous died and it was on the news this morning. Who was it? (Mr. Rogers)
  19. What do you think about euthanasia as a way to deal with feral cat populations?
  20. In the middle of the interview, they handed the applicant a scrap of paper with a circle, a triangle, a square and a sqiggly line drawn on it.
    They told her to pick two of the shapes that most suited her.
  21. What do you like to do for fun?
  22. What kind of books do you like to read?
  23. What are the last couple of books you read?
  24. Tell us about a difficult time in your like and how you dealt with it.
  25. What have you done since your last interview?
  26. You work at a vet hospital, what do you do there?
  27. Looking at your transcipt, some of your science grades were below 3.0 your last year of college. Can you explain what happened?
  28. Who do you think is the most important in a veterinary hospital?
  29. If you don't get in this year, what will you do?
  30. The HMS Beagle was in the news. Can you tell me what it is and why it was in the news? (This was the same lady who asked about Mr. Rogers. The HMS Beagle is Darwin's ship and it may have been found buried by London.)
