Pre-Pharmacy Club

2008-2009

The Pre-Pharmacy Club was formed to

  1. Provide students with special interest to join a group where they can share their ideas and concerns,
  2. Serve as an informational and resource center for students,
  3. Facilitate students' understanding of the pharmacy profession, and
  4. Provide students with leadership opportunities.

First, the Pre-Pharmacy Club provides students with special interests, a forum for sharing ideas and concerns. Meetings are held once a week with activities, including guest speakers (from the UW Pharmacy School, UW Medical Center, community pharmacies, and more), field trips (to local UW facilities, community pharmacies and drug companies), and videos (that usually cover recent medical issues).

Second, the Pre-Pharmacy Club serves as an information and resource center. The organization provides essential information on the application process, the interview process, different schools in the US, journal articles, volunteer opportunities, and contact numbers and addresses. Also, the officers serve as a basic resource.

Third, the Pre-Pharmacy Club helps students understand their field of interest by exposing them to the key players of the field (UW Pharmacy students, faculty, pharmacists, etc...). Field trips provide first hand experience of the environment that the members may have to face in the future, which helps students decide if pharmacy is an optimal choice for them.

Finally, the Pre-Pharmacy provides students with leadership opportunities by informing them of the volunteer opportunities available in the community.
