OUR HISTORY:
IN THE BEGINNING...
The Pre-Pharmacy Club was recently founded in 1996 by Anne Lee, a Pharmacy Student. Anne established this club for the purpose of being a resource to undergraduates interested in Pharmacy. The new officers of 2007-2008 also have a responsibility to carry on this goal.
ARTICLE I - Name
The name of this organization shall be "Pre-Pharmacy Club."
ARTICLE II - Purpose
The Pre-Pharmacy Club was formed to
- Provide students with special interest to join a group where they can share their ideas and concerns,
- Serve as an informational and resource center for students,
- Facilitate students' understanding of the pharmacy profession, and
- Provide students with leadership opportunities.
First, the Pre-Pharmacy Club provides students with special interests, a forum for sharing ideas and concerns. Meetings are held once a week with activities, including guest speakers (from the UW Pharmacy School, UW Medical Center, community pharmacies, and more), field trips (to local UW facilities, community pharmacies and drug companies), and videos (that usually cover recent medical issues).
Second, the Pre-Pharmacy Club serves as an information and resource center. The organization provides essential information on the application process, the interview process, different schools in the US, journal articles, volunteer opportunities, and contact numbers and addresses. Also, the officers serve as a basic resource.
Third, the Pre-Pharmacy Club helps students understand their field of interest by exposing them to the key players of the field (UW Pharmacy students, faculty, pharmacists, etc...). Field trips provide first hand experience of the environment that the members may have to face in the future, which helps students decide if pharmacy is an optimal choice for them.
Finally, the Pre-Pharmacy provides students with leadership opportunities by informing them of the volunteer opportunities available in the community.
ARTICLE III - Officers
All officers will be required to attend all officer and general meetings, participate in club projects organized by officers, post or distribute one pharmacy or health-care related article, and attend 1-2 scheduled mock interviews. Exceptions to attending meetings must be school or work related absences approved in advance. Club projects tasks organized and assigned by officers must be completed by given deadline. Each pharmacy or healthcare related article must be sent to the webmaster by the first week of each month. Mock interviews will be scheduled around officer schedules and officers will be required to attend 1-2.
The following are descriptions of officer duties that are expected for the 2007-2008 academic year. Each officer will be required to sign a contract confirming their commitment to these duties. All contracts are subject to termination. If an officer fails to complete the duties expected of them they will give up their position to a more complaint individual. First violation of contract will result in meeting with officers; second violation will result in termination. These contracts are to ensure fairness to all officers as each person completes the necessary task and others are not required to pick up the slack. If everyone does their jobs we will maximize the success of our club with a smooth flowing and enjoyable year!
