Visit to ISIS lab
We will be visiting the The Institute for Surgical and Interventional Simulation lab to look at the work they are doing and discuss and brainstorm related clinical informatics issues and topics. What's going on out there: JAMIA
We'll review the latest JAMIA issue and discuss JAMIA as a medical informatics journal and forum. We will look at the different types of papers JAMIA publishes and what that means for informatics research. Location: T-663 Walker Ames Scholar Lecture in Nursing Informatics Informal Student Discussion with Dr. Carole A. Gassert: The future of health/clinical informatics, required competencies and innovative informatics teaching models Carole A. Gassert has directed the Nursing Informatics program at the University of Utah since October 2002. She has recently been moved from a position as Associate Dean, Academic Affairs to Associate Dean, Information and Technology to allow her to focus on numerous informatics projects that have been implemented in the College of Nursing. Dr. Gassert is a long-standing advocate for nursing informatics (NI), working to establish NI as specialty within nursing and developing the first NI graduate program in the world at the University of Maryland. She spent six years in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the Federal Government where she served as an Informatics Nurse Consultant to the Bureau of Health Professions and the Division of Nursing and Senior Distance Learning Advisor for HRSA just before coming to the University of Utah. Clinical Systems Training Tools
We will review ORCA training modules and discuss how training in the larger context of clinical information systems and health care. What is their overall approach? How do or don't they meet the needs of users? What do they focus on? What does this training imply about the relationship between clinicians and information systems?
