| Pi Kappa Phi is the only fraternity to establish, own and operate its own national community outreach organization. Push America seeks to raise money and awareness for the issues facing people with disabilities. Locally, Pi Kapps have volunteered numerous times with the Special Olympics. We have done such things as hang Christmas lights along with numerous other small scale projects to raise money totaling in about $8,500 already for this year. Pi Kapps recently traveled to Coeur D’Alene, Idaho to participate in an accessibility project in a Give-A-Push weekend. Alpha Delta chapter also leads the national fraternity for participation in the Journey of Hope, a cross-country cycling trip, to raise money and awareness for Push America. |

Push America, founded in 1977, remains the exclusive philanthropy of Pi Kappa Phi with the purpose of instilling lifelong service in our fraternity members and serving people with disabilities. The organization, solely owned and operated by Pi Kappa Phi, is unique as it is the only philanthropy owned by a National Fraternity. All other fraternities donate money to a designated philanthropy (i.e. Red Cross, Fred Hutchinson, etc.) but Pi Kapps do much more than donate money. We actually serve people with disabilities by working for Push America. This makes serving others an integral part of Pi Kappa Phi. Push serves people with disabilities by raising funds, promoting public awareness, and directly interacting with individuals. Members of Pi Kappa Phi can become involved in local community events as well as national sponsored service projects. For more information about PUSH America click here to visit their website. |

The Journey of Hope: The Journey of Hope is a cross-country bicycle trek beginning in San Francisco, CA and ending in Washington, D.C. which raises funds and awareness for people with disabilities. Simply put, the Journey of Hope is a ride with a purpose. Make no mistake; this is not a simple ride. The Journey of Hope is about many things. It is about challenging the norm. It is about serving our communities. It is about finding out more about ourselves than we ever imagined. It is about having a dream. It is about a mission. It is about hope. Pi Kapp men from across the country get together each summer to make this incredible Journey. Riders are responsible to raise $5000 to participate. Last year’s team raised over $400,000 to benefit people with disabilities. The UW chapter has sent more men on the Journey of Hope than any other Pi Kapp chapter in the nation (get the number from member education). |
| West Coast Push |
| This 4 day cycling trek travels for Portland to Seattle. Alpha Delta Chapter brothers stop along the way to volunteer in local service organizations like the Longview Parks and Recreation for people with disabilities. This is a small scale version of the Journey of Hope performed solely by Alpha Delta Chapter. |

Friendship Visits: Regularily, Pi Kapps from Alpha Delta Chapter make visits to local centers for the disabled and help out at events which benifit the disabled. These vists are organized by our PUSH Committee Chair, Steven Mummert, who can be reached at 253-951-5952, or by email at smummert@hotmail.com. Gentlemen’s Auction: Each year the gentlemen of Pi Kappa Phi conduct a date auction, attracting sorority sisters to bid for a date with one of our members. Competition between girls for a date can become intense; one member once was auctioned off for $500! West Coast Push: see above |
Build America: Each summer Build America takes 25 men across the country to make camps more accessible for people with disabilities through construction, dedication and hard work. Participants provide each camp with hours of hard work while also supplying programming for the campers. Push Camp: Push Camps provide undergraduate members the opportunity to spend a high quality spring break renovating camps and building amenities that will enhance the summer camp experience of a person with a disability. During this spring break alternative, members of Pi Kappa also participate in, brotherhood events, empathy training and friendship visits. Many walk away knowing that they have made a difference in the lives of people with disabilities and learned something different about themselves in the process. Journey of Hope: see above |
