"What is Service Learning?!?!"
May 1, 2006

In service learning courses, students get involved in public service activities by working with local, community-based organizations. A panel of instructors and administrators will talk about how service learning has been integrated into classroom activities and course objectives. How does working in the community make students more aware of the critical issues being considered in the classroom? In what ways are students able to contribute to the goals of local organizations and bridge the gap between academia and its larger community? Presenters from a variety of disciplines will consider these questions and share their experiences. The panel will also address the resources available to instructors interested in planning classes with service learning components. Panelists include: Chau Dang (Social Work), Kristine Kelley (English), Melanie Kill (English), Jason Lillis (English), and Rachel Vaughn (Carlson Center).
