"Out in the Classroom: Allies In and Out of the Classroom"
November 7, 2005

This roundtable features four UW instructors: Clare Bright (Women Studies and Honors Program Lecturer), D.A. Clements ( Information School GA), Heather Murphy (Spanish and Portuguese Studies TA), and Paul Teske (Human Development and Cognition PhD student). This informal roundtable discussion, moderated by Matthew James Vechinski (English TA), will focus on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Queer instructors building alliances with the larger university community and vice versa. Special emphasis will be placed on the need to feel accepted by students and departments, the influence of alliances on instructors’ professional and personal lives, and the responsibilities that come with building alliances. Panelists will briefly share their thoughts relating to these topics and an open discussion will follow. All members of the University community are encouraged to attend--faculty, staff, TAs, RAs, GAs, and students.
