Peter McLaren Peter McLaren began his teaching career in his hometown of Toronto, Ontario, at an inner-city elementary school in one of the most highly populated housing projects in Canada. He completed his Ph.D at The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto and now serves as Professor of the Division of Urban Schooling in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Commerce and Associate of Massey College, McLaren is the author and editor of over 35 books, including Che Guevara, Paulo Freire, and the Pedagogy of Revolution (2000), Schooling as a Ritual Performance (2000), Revolutionary Multiculturalism (1997), and Critical Pedagogy and Predatory Culture (1995). In April 2002, McLaren received the inaugural Paulo Freire Social Justice Award presented by Chapman University in California.
