YMCA New Years Dinner 2005

Instead of partying it down with everyone else, the officers of Operation Smile and many dedicated members volunteered their time to make New Years Eve a memorable experience for many of the homeless youth on the Ave at the YMCA.

An Evening of Smiles

On October 15th, 2005, the Washington State chapter of Operation Smile put on their fourth annual "An Evening of Smiles" auction and dinner cruise. The successful night, set on board a Royal Argosy Cruise ship, brought in over $100,000. The event was hosted by Seattle Evening Magazine's John Curley and included special guest speaker Jose Villegas. The UW chapter contributed their efforts by helping out with running the auction. Look forward to this event again on November 18, 2006.

This was the first official Operation Smile Student Conference at the University of Washington. We had participants from all over the state ranging from high school, undergraduates, and even professional school students. The event was to raise awareness of the group and listen to our guest speaker Jose Villegas talk about his amazing journey of living with a life-threatening tumor to all the medical treatment he received through Operation Smile. Jose has been on many television shows and to many groups talking about his experience. This was a once and a lifetime chance to hear such an amazing story. This conference was the first step in creating a network of students that care about the same cause. Thank you for all the colleges and students who attended our event.

Every year the Operation Smile team throws an event for a group in need of help during the holiday season. This year we put our efforts into a group known as G.A.P. (Grandparents as Parents). G.A.P. is a group where many disabled or low income grandparents must provide for their grandchildren, due to the loss of the childrens parents. We were able to raise over $600 dollars in food and gifts to provide for this event and give them a Christmas party they will never forget. Thank you to all our volunteers who were able to make this happen with us!

The Operation Smile team and the UW Medicine Operation Smile Chapter were able to help raise over $1,000 dollars at a benefit dinner at the restaurant Ginger Lime. This benefit dinner helped raise enough money for one surgery and many medical supplies. We would like to thank Daniel and Anna Nguyen for their generosity for supporting our cause.
