TASK 3: Plan and schedule the tasks for this week's lab. Create a list of tasks, estimate their durations, identify predecessors, assign resources, create a CPM network, calculate the project duration, the total float on all tasks, and the critical path. For information on how to prepare a apply CPM, see section 3.9.2 of the text. (Cooper, 2004, para. 7) |

Plan and Schedule
We decided to make the project schedule as detailed as possible, so that it would give us a better idea of how to allocate our time. In order to do this we broke up the seven tasks listed in the project handout into smaller subtasks. Our group felt that it was best to follow the design process that we had learned in class as closely as possible for our first iteration. As a result, the CPM for our project is very linear looking. This helped the group in the long run because we wanted to make sure that all of the group members where involved in every process of the design. The early start, late start, and total float were calculated for all of the tasks. The critical path was also identified. The largest problem that we found with our CPM throughout the project was that we had not assigned enough time to some of the tasks. The amount of man hours spent on this project is over double what we predicted in the project schedule. Due to the linear nature of our schedule, this also caused the group to miss our target completion hour estimate by approximately 25 hours. The largest increase in time resulted from the group spending a lot more time on Task 6 than was allocated in the CPM. In addition, the website design took about twice as long as expected, due to inexperience in the area. The specific causes for the delay in Task 6 are addressed on the Analysis page. Note that the CPM on this page reflects all of the incorrect items we beleived needed to be done for Task 6. |
