Welcome to my professional and personal website. Here you will find information and links about my work in computational neuroscience, as well as information about my hobbies, friends, and family.
Computational neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field that uses mathematical analysis and scientific computing to gain insights into the computational principles underlying brain function. Developing mathematical models that capture the important aspects of neural function is a central area of research, and it is through these models that we can gain insight about computational principles.
I am extremely fortunate to be a part of a multidisciplinary community of researchers at the University of Washington that investigate this exciting area. Multidisciplinary collaboration is a key to making substantive progress in this field, and I am fortunate to collaborate with some of the worlds best scientists including members of the Shea-Brown Lab (Applied Mathematics) Fairhall Lab (Physiology and Biophysics) and Shadlen Lab (Neurobiology and Behavior).
Another very important aspect of my work at UW has been my involvement in teaching. I have worked as both a Teaching Assistant and Instructor for the AMath department, and been involved with basic math education in both the Seattle Public School District and with the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. In the 2008-2009 academic year I was awarded an NSF GK-12 Fellowship, which allowed me to develop and implement mathematics enrichment lessons at Emerson Elementary school. Taking lessons from that year, myself and Lisa Bishop, another GK-12 Fellow, started the SIAMUW Math Fair, a twice-yearly outreach event powered by amazing volunteers from the UW community.

I started keeping a personal and professional blog two years ago; it fell
into disuse as the pressure to finish my dissertation increased, but I am back to blogging now, and it will hopefully contain some content of interest as well! Thanks for visiting! -n
