Dates

Tryouts for the next year's main UW Men's Club Soccer team are:

  • Thursday, September 25, 2008
  • Tuesday, September 30, 2008
  • Thursday, October 1, 2008

This tryouts will be for both the A-team and B-team.  That means we will take between 36 and 40 players.

They will all be held at the IMA field #3 (R11 on this map) from 8pm to 10pm.  Please bring both a light and dark shirt.  A good pumped-up ball would also be nice.  And, of course, bring either cleats or turf shoes and shin guards.

Anyone can try out.  Anyone can come to the open practices.  As long as you are affiliated with UW as a student, faculty, or staff member.  The official team will practice on a separate part of the field, but there is always other field space to come down to play.  Click here for when we're holding OPEN PRACTICES.  The schedule contains this information as well, but it is primarily for the A-team.

Note: For recreational play on the IMA Field #3, check out the schedule on the east gate of the field (posted a few weeks into the quarter).  For organized recreational play, the IMA puts together some short leagues.

Requirements to Join

In order for us to offer you a spot on our team, you must:

  • Attend at least one of the tryouts
  • Be a regularly enrolled undergraduate or graduate student.  Faculty or University staff member must purchase a valid IMA Quarterly or Annual Membership prior to participation.
  • Fill out a medical waiver form, which we can provide to you.  Have your student ID number (or equivalent) available.
  • And if you make it, you'll have to get a player card and pay team dues (see last two sections below).

What are tryouts like?

On the first Thursday, we will split you into teams and scrimmage on three shortened fields.  We will watch the games as we play and walk around.  At the second and third tryout, we will invite certain players to play on different fields.  Throughout the tryout, we will invite players to move between fields.  The "we" is the captains and long-standing teammembers; officially, the five club officers agree upon the team.  There will be many people everywhere; we expect around 75 different people to come out each try out.

What are we looking for?

On the final day of tryouts, we will select both the A- and B-teams.  Right now, we are looking at taking between an 18 and 20-man team for each squad.  The team will be announced at the very end on 10/4/2007.

In our players, we want talent, fitness, sportsmanship, and dedication.  In other words, you must possess some fundamental abilities, but a good attitude will go a long way.  We see a good attitude in one's personality, on and off-field sportmanship, and dedication to our team.  Showing up to all tryouts, practices, and games will ensure a teammember playing time.

If you want to play, you'll need a current PLAYER CARD

Please go to the player card webpage for more information.  Both the A-team and the B-team will use a WSSA player card.  Last year, the B-team played in the GSSL, and the GSSL player cards do not work in the Puget Sound Soccer League.

Quarterly team dues

They will be $30 per quarter. The primary purpose of dues is to pay for league fees. The dues apply to everyone selected for the A-team or the B-team.  Bring cash or a check for Matt Goss or Richard Wood.
