UW Men's Club Soccer

Welcome to the Men's Soccer Club Team at the University of Washington. We are UW students who want to continue playing soccer at a competitive level (faculty & UW staff could also play). We are directed and partially funded by the Club Sports Program during the autumn and winter seasons. The current co-presidents are Richard Wood and Matt Goss; they can be contacted at msoccer@u.washington.edu.

Anyone wanting to play for us, go the Tryouts page. The main tryouts will be held our first three practices at 8pm. In fall 2007, that will be September 27, October 2, and October 4. We plan on picking an A- and B-squad (between 36 and 40 players)!

In the 2007-2008 season, both the A- and B-teams will be playing in different divisions of the Starfire Premier Soccer Club (SPSC), which was formerly the Puget Sound Soccer League (PSSL).  We have specially designed our schedule with the student-athlete in mind. There should be no conflict with UW football games, UW Basketball games, or Seahawks game. So, go cheer on Seattle sports! Usually half of our team are Dawg Pack members anyway. We also get the three-day weekends off; those are MLK, President's Day, and Memorial Day weekends. We are not active during Thanksgiving or Christmas.  See the schedule for a summary of all the current activities.

The announcement page is up and running. The forum is also up and running. And feel free to get us pictures to add to the pictures section.

In the 2006-2007 seasons, we installed many improvements to the previous years and will grow on those changes. Firstly, we began playing in the PSSL. All previous years have been with the GSSL.  We have greatly enjoyed this change because of the high competition. We also started up a B-team, which played in the GSSL top division during winter 2007. And finally, we have began scrimmage other college teams. In the 2006-2007 season, we played Seattle University's club team, Shoreline Community College, Seattle Pacific University, Washington State University, and Central Washington University. We also scrimmaged the BU19 Blackhills squad thrice. Next year, we look to play those teams again and possibly others.

In April 2007, the UW Daily wrote a feature article on our team.  It is strangely named Great Balls of Fire and can be read online.

For the current list and last year's list of team officers, go to the officers page.  In summary, the past presidents have been:
2007-2008: Richard Wood + Matt Goss
2006-2007: Daniel Libby
2004-2006: Alex Eisner
2003-2004: Tak Zaoya
2002-2003: Dakotah Lane

Note: For recreational play on the IMA Field #3, check out the schedule on the east gate of the field (posted in early October for Autumn 2006). For organized recreational play, the IMA puts together some short leagues each quarter.
