Present transportation planning efforts attempt to predict how the needs of certain communities in their scope and suggest solutions that will facilitate further "trouble-free" grow. Even though the work of such planning efforts has in many cases been successful, this is not always the case. Various factors affect this, one of which is the mentallity of the planners. It is unfortunate that social factors affect the social evolution today, like for example the strong mental maps that people carry with them, that eliminates from their interest certain areas. This, we believe, is the major cause for the under-development of transportation links between the Seattle - Tacoma - Bremerton Consolidated Metropolitan Area (CMA) and the Eastern side of the triangle they form (areas like Bellvue, Kirkland, etc).
Our project will therefore attempt to create a database for the region in question that will enable us to predict the problems that could come about in the near future (prediction based on previous U.S. Census data for the next Census year - 2010) as well as propose a solution that could give transportation planners the necessary time to take action. We will use the internet as a mean to collaborate on the project, as well as a presentation tool for our results.
