Kennedy's PACCAR Money "Pretty Much Blown"

Sources are reporting that Dr. Jane Kennedy, Associate Professor of Accounting and winner of the 2004 PACCAR award, has "pretty much blown" the $25,000 prize on gambling and booze during a crazy weekend in Vegas.

Dr. Kennedy has "no comment" about her alleged weekend In Las Vegas.

Kennedy steadfastly refuses to comment on the matter.

"The PACCAR Award is the largest teaching award in the United States," said Acting Dean Vance Rowley. "It is also notable for being selected strictly by the students - no faculty or staff have input into the decision. We at the University of Washington consider ourselves very fortunate to be the recipients of such a prestigious endowment."

Former winners include Karma Hadjimichalakis, Rocky Higgins, Jennifer Koski, Stephan Sefcik, Elizabeth Stearns, and Ali Tarhouni.

In addition to the recognition conferred by the award itself, each recipient receives $25,000 in a single lump sum. Often, this money is used to further academic or personal goals. Dr. Hadjimichalakis has commented that she used her award as a down payment on a "cottage retreat" in Eastern Washington.

Conversely, the MBAlmer has learned that the vast majority of Kennedy's allotment has been left in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Piecing together details and police reports, it appears that Dr. Kennedy arrived in Las Vegas shortly after Labor Day. VISA receipts confirm a $200 trip to "Big Bob's Liquor Store" shortly outside Las Vegas International Airport. A limousine arrived approximately 20 minutes later, picked up Dr. Kennedy, and headed to The Venetian.

From there, details begin to get hazy.

Police reports confirm Dr. Kennedy was ejected from the Cirque du Soleil "Mystere" show at approximately 11:30 PM on Wednesday for "loud, lewd and bawdy" behavior.

Several eyewitnesses then report that Kennedy went carousing on the Strip. After riding the "Manhattan Express" roller coaster at New York, New York, Kennedy elected to ride the High Roller coaster atop the 1,081-foot-tall Stratosphere Hotel.

Kennedy apparently spent the rest of her time in Vegas at the Stratosphere's roulette table. She staggered off the plane at Seattle Tacoma International Airport at approximately 9:15 AM Friday, demanded a Bloody Mary, and hailed a cab.

Ironically, despite her position in the accounting department and longtime calls for corporate transparency, Kennedy refuses to account for any of the award's whereabouts.

Shown a photograph of Dr. Kennedy, Brad Johnson, head of guest relations at the Stratosphere Tower nodded. "Of course we know Ms. K," said Johnson. "She is one of our most valued guests, and is welcome at the Stratosphere any time. In fact, please have her ask for me personally if anything is not to her satisfaction."

The MBAlmer has subsequently learned that Kennedy's Pike Place Market condo was listed recently, and noted as "priced to sell."

Phone calls to Kennedy's home and office were not being returned by press time.
