Mission and Purpose

LSU is an academic and cultural group who's primary mission is to:

  • Increase awareness of issues facing Latinos
  • Create a network of likeminded people
  • Promote change through cultural understanding and awareness

By promoting awareness of Latino issues, building partnerships with academic departments and student groups on campus, and promoting youth leadership through outreach, LSU is an opportunity for students to get involved and get connected. We look to encourage unity amongst Latinos and minority groups as well a promote change to give diversity its rightful place on campus. It is our hope to enhance the student experience at UW and promote change through awareness and understanding.

History

LSU was formed in 2006 by three University of Washington students who felt that there was a need for a Latino organization that worked in conjunction with campus departments, faculty, and other organizations to change the campus community and the surrounding community through an academic medium. By working with staff, students and the greater community alike, LSU was founded on the idea that change could be achieved through knowledge and empowerment.
