Hudec built this house for himself, his wife Gisela, and their three children. In the English Tudor style, the house is an example of Hudec's careful design and high standards of craftsmanship.

The grounds of the house were designed by Hudec, who had an interest in the relationship between building and landscape. He also designed grounds for other buildings, such as Hubertus Court (now the Da Hua Guest House), the apartment building he designed with a flat for his family in 1938, after his children went away to boarding schools in Germany and Canada.

The plan of the grounds to the left of the image above shows that only the access to Columbia Road remains the same today (a guarded gate faces the street now). Some of the old trees are still there.
