My Ice Sheet Blog

From September 6-28, 2005, I participated in the International Arctic Research Center's (IARC) summer school program on board the Ice Breaker Kapitan Dranitsyn. The summer school, "Climate Change in the Arctic Ocean", allowed students to learn about and participate in international climate change research taking place in the Barents, Kara and Laptev Seas.  This was an excellent experience for me.  My time aboard the Kapitan Dranitsyn introduced me to a wide range of oceanographic and sea ice related research/field work outside my research area.  This trip provided an international networking experience where all students were allowed to share there own polar research interest as well as participate in short term research projects taking place on board the ship.  I participated in a research project lead by Dr. David Barber, The University of Manitoba, using ship-board passive microwave radiometers to monitor sea ice extent.
