Happy summer!

Enjoy the rest of the summer. I'll have your exams graded and course grades turned in by Monday, August 20th. The course grades will be posted on MyUW no later than Tuesday. If you would like your last exam back, please email me to make arrangements. The Econ Dept is moving to another building in a couple of weeks, so it will be difficult to find me on campus for awhile.

Thanks!

new info & links

Below (under August 8th) I have posted the link to the Index of Economic Freedom we used in today's class discussion. There is a lot of interesting information available through this project's website!

Also, I have added another take on free trade (under August 13th) and how it impacts an economy. BE PREPARED for a discussion on this topic on Monday. It will happen, and you can only freeload of off your classmates so much.

Motivation for studying economic growth.
Our last section in this class is a look at long-run economic growth. Why do we study it? Paul Romer has a great introduction to growth in this short article. (Bonus: it might help you with parts of PS#4 as well!)

What currency controversy?
Weren't even aware that there are U.S. policymakers who are upset about China's exchange rate policy? If the topic is new to you (or you just need some clarification about the topic of Monday's discussion), here is a textbook description of the Chinese Currency Controversy.

What's next
The syllabus shows C.7 & 8 as being next week's topics. We will spend about 20 minutes on C.7 details on Monday (so that you have a chance to showcase what you have learned since the last class), and we will then cover C.18... possibly parts of C.19 too. Next Wednesday will be C.19 and 20. Exam #2 (on Wednesday, July 25th) will cover C.6, 7, 18, 19 and 20.
