I am in my fourth year as a graduate student in the QERM (Quantitative Ecology and Resource Management) program at the University of Washington in Seattle. My advisor is Jen Ruesink, in the Biology Department.
Academic Interests:
I am interested in utlizing statistical and modeling tools to shed light on the complex ecological processes that are constanting churning in the world around us. In particular, I enjoy working on ecological questions with management applications. In analyzing these types of problems, collaboration with biologists, oceanographers, fisheries scientists and others can be crucial.
Research Interests:
For my Master's degree, I studied the spread of the European green crab, an invasive species to the Pacific Northwest. They were found in San Francisco Bay in the late 1980's, and since then sporadic sightings have been made up the west coast of North America, as far north as Vancouver Island. I modeled how their larvae drift from San Francisco Bay to determine under what conditions they reach different bays and estuaries on the west coast. I worked with some wonderful folks at NOAA on this project, which I completed in December of 2007.
I presented this poster of my modeling design at the Pacific Estuarine Research Society conference in February 2007.
Currently, I am studying multivariate autoregressive time series in an effort to estimate community dynamics over time and space. I am funded by a SeaGrant population dynamics fellowship.
