Your Jobs

First, you will play a game to get good at putting letters and words in ABC order. You can play more than one game.

When you get good at putting letters and words in ABC order, you will pick one of Lee's lists and put the words in ABC order.

Then you will cut out your list and mix it up for a friend to put in ABC order. If your friend has a hard time, teach him or her!

Where to Go

Here are some games to help you get good at putting letters and words in ABC order. You can play more than one.

When you feel ready to put a list of ten words in ABC order, choose one of Lee's lists.

The Steps

  1. Choose one of the games to help you practice putting letters and words in ABC order. You can play more than one.
  1. Choose one list to put in ABC order.  
  1. Put the list in ABC order by moving the words.  If you have a hard time, play another game and try your list later.

  2. When the words are in ABC order, print the list. 

  3. Show your list to your teacher. She or he will be so proud of you! 

  4. Cut out your list.  Mix up the words and see if a friend can put the list in ABC order. If your friend can't do it, show him or her how!

Your teacher will look to see if your list is in ABC order. Your teacher will ask you how you knew your list was in the right order and what tricks you used.

You used the alphabet to put letters and words into ABC order. Another name for ABC order is "alphabetical order." Do you see a word hiding in "alphabetical?" That's right! The word alphabet is hiding in "alphabetical order."
