PLANS FOR SPRING ALUMNI EVENT
Officers,
Here are the tentative plans for the spring alumni event. They need more work and we need to have a hook, something more than just a bbq to get them to come. The goal of this is to get the current students in touch with alumni, see what they did with their degree, maybe some friends of the dept as well, donors and such. I have met with Chong Porter from the development office and she said that she will help us with the event. Some of the ideas here are from her. Please read and offer your feedback.
A day or half day event where the alumni and friends of the department are invited to come and see the progress that the department, college and university has made since their graduation. It will culminate with a barbecue with current students and faculty/staff.
What al do we want to have besides the barbecue? Department and or campus tour? Round table discussion with students? Faculty or Guest Lecture? Watch the department video and update on the 5 year plan? Also, what special foods should we have?
Past alumni (ages 30-75), their families and friends of the department who are currently living in the greater Puget Sound area, along with the current students, faculty and staff.
Among these alumni and friends, who are the ones that we really want to make sure are there?
WHERE
Depending upon crowd size, the movie can be shown in MUE 153 or up in ROB 321 or over in Wilcox 243. Then a tour through the building and maybe around some of the new parts of the campus. Barbecue will be held in the courtyard.
WHEN
In the first two weeks of Spring quarter, well before the Open House (Fri and Sat of 21 st ). We don't want to do it near the Open House cause it will be crazy and after that it's crunch time for us seniors.
QUESTIONS
Weekday or Weekend? It's gotta be sunny!
WHY
To reconnect the alumni with the department so that they know what is happening and what is planned for the future and to see the caliber of students that are being produced. For the students this will be a great time to make some connections and learn what MSE grads have done with their degrees.
