Movie Night: JSA is holding its Spring Movie Night! We have decided to screen “Battle Royale,” due to the recent controversy sparked from the similarities between the film and “The Hunger Games.”

Here is a brief storyline with no disappointing spoilers:
A random class of Japanese ninth-grade students are--in this fictional universe--randomly selected by a fascist government lottery. They are kidnapped and forced onto an isolated island, where they are equipped with food, water, a map, and a random weapon. On the island, they have to compete in a violent death-match game till only one victor remains. Failure to follow the rules or participate in the death match results in death by an exploding collar that everyone has to wear (IMDb)

Fall General Meeting: Not sure about what clubs to join for the upcoming year? Come check out the Japanese Student Association at the University of Washington! Dessert Night: Nom nom nom... is that chocolate cake and dango I see? Oh look over there, I see some taiyaki and mochi? Looks like it is JSA's anticipated dessert night and game night! One of our best events where you get to pig out on various Japanese and non-Japanese sweets/snacks! And even if you don't like sweets, you can come join us to play some fun games! It's a great opportunity to meet new people and get to know our officers (we don't bite, scout's honor). Don't be afraid to stop by and have some fun!

Fall Movie Night: It's about time to bring out the popcorn and comfy chairs. Start dimming the lights and rolling the film, it's time for JSA's quarterly movie night! Join your fellow members to watch a Japanese film. The tradition for movie night is have you guys nominate the movies, then vote on the movies, and then come watch the movie that is voted for! Start thinking about those Japanese movies you've always wanted to watch. and suggest them on our Facebook page! Then we will close the poll on 11/26. The movie with the most votes will be presented during our movie night! All you have to do for this event is bring yourself and perhaps some snacks!
Princess Mononoke (もののけ姫) will be shown in Japanese with English Subtitles

Bubble Tea Night: This concludes another quarter with JSA, finals are coming up and anticipation for your vacation plans. But JSA has one more event planned for you, and that's Bubble Tea Night! Come join all your friends and make some new ones. We know you're stressing over finals and so are we, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't come out? It's a great way to relieve all that stress before you start hitting the books. This is a quarterly event we do that lets us just relax and socialize. Come on down for that last event of the quarter! And don't forget to bring your membership card for DISCOUNT.

And stay for a chance to win a gift from JSA every half an hour. No need to stay for the whole thing. We'd still love to see you when you have time during the 4:30-7:30 time frame!

Food Show Night: JSA is holding a Food Show Night this coming Friday. Come hang out with fellow JSA members, friends, and officers! We will be showing episodes of どっちの料理ショー (Dotchi no Ryori Show): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dotch_Cooking_Show. It's similar to Iron Chef, but the guests of this show vote which of the two chef's food they would like to eat more, and only those who voted for the winning dish are allowed to eat. It's no longer aired, but it was a VERY popular cooking show. Don't miss it!

If you don't know Japanese, don't worry. There will be English subtitles.

Dango & Onigiri Night: It's finally time for JSA's annual Dango & Onigiri Night. What is dango or onigiri? Dango is a sweet little morsel that is closely related to mochi. It can be paired with different garnishes such as red bean or a sweet soy sauce. Onigiri is a very popular Japanese snack or meal. It consisits of rice with different seasonings sprinkled on. You can also find it plain, filled with some tasty ingredient. This is a great way to immerse yourself in Japanese culture, not only by being in JSA, but by trying Japanese foods! This night will be filled with delicious treats and a chance to meet new people. Come and relax before the quarter gets too hectic!!
